Your First Magick Divination
I am going to show you a simple way of Divination called Scrying. The first thing you need to do is get some sort of reflective object... like a mirror or a crystal ball, etc. This will actually allow you to catch a glimpse of things to come if you follow your current path.

Now, turn out the lights, and get some of your favorite incense going. The only light that should be in the room is a dim light, such as a candle set behind you. Cover the table you are going to use with a black cloth or piece of fabric. Now place the object you chose to use for Scrying on top of the table.

Start by warming up and getting into your meditative space, setting the tone for what you will be doing. When you are ready, open your eyes and look into the surface of your scrying instrument. Your focus should shift past the surface to a point somewhere approximately five or six inches beyond the surface. This may or may not work for you, but it is the best way to shift your focus for scrying. Have you ever looked at those pictures that are completely comprised of colored dots and/or splotches and had to “look past” the surface to see the three-dimensional image in the picture? It is the same principle used here for scrying.

Try to keep your mind blank, open to whatever may be shown to you, unless you are scrying for the answer to a specific question. Your eyes will want to blink. That is all right, let them blink and regain your shift in focus. When you are first beginning, try to keep your scrying time to no more than ten or twenty minutes. If you are not successful, put it away and try again another time.

Images may come to you in any number of forms. Some may be full images, even moving pictures as though you are watching a movie. That is not common, however, especially when you are first beginning. At first you may only get a “cloud” or “mist”. This may eventually part to allow images to come through, or it may just move in one direction or another in answer to yes or no questions.

If you do see images, they may be simple symbols left open for interpretation. These symbols usually mean something to you, and are not necessarily the symbols you may find written in a book. For instance, a dog may generally symbolize loyalty or protection, but if you were traumatized at some point in your life by a dog attack, it could mean something entirely different to you.

Tips On Being A Successful Magician
People who want to get into the profession of performing as a magician should know about the ins and outs of the business.

Being a professional magician is a field which is quite hard to get into without the proper motivation, know-how and guidance.

Here are some helpful tips on how you can land a gig as a magician and break into the field of performing magic tricks professionally:

1. Search within yourself and find out what you wish to gain from magic.

You might consider this field because you have found out that you are good with magic tricks. Another motivation could be that you love to perform in front of people. Whatever it is that pushes you to go after the art of magic tricks, you have to make sure that they are the proper reasons and that you see yourself doing it with passion and flair for many years to come.

2. It takes one to know one.

If you want to be a professional magician, learn everything you can about the field first. Check out the tricks of the trade.

If possible, study the ancient magic tricks and learn about how the greatest magicians started out and what their 'signature tricks' were.

If you are a magician who is just starting out, you should watch as much magic as you can.

Go to magic shows and see how the magicians perform and interact with the audience. Watch videos and imitate the performers if you can. The more tricks you have up your sleeve, the greater a magician you will be.

3. Be what you want to be.

You can be a mere hobbyist, or have a professional career in performing in front of a crowd, or you might want to be the next David Copperfield or Harry Houdini.

You need to work hard and invest more time, effort and practice if you want to be the next "great" magician.

4. Practice.

Perform a trick in private and make sure that it is perfect before attempting to perform it in front of an audience.

Also, never reveal your trade secrets, even to a friend, because this ruins the illusion.

Another important thing to remember is not to repeat the same trick in front of the exact same audience.

5. Know the right people.

If you plan to perform professionally for a particular group, either children or adults, you need to look for the contacts to help you land a gig or a performance to practice and hone your craft.

Different Paraphernalia Used In Performing Magic
David Blaine and David Copperfield's popularity have inspired a lot of people to learn magic. And with that, there are also a number of stores that sell magic paraphernalia for those who would like to learn the art of magic. Below are some of the popular equipment used for magic:

Visible Sawing - the participant lays flat on a bench or table. Then, the magician places a wooden stock over the participants mid-section. The saw is turned on and is used to cut the individual in half. After the saw has been turned off and the stock is removed, the participant stands in front of the audience unharmed.

Victory Cubes - is a new stage inclusion that can be used to make tricks more well-executed. Perfect for blocking those angles that might reveal the trick's secret, or as a prop container. These instantly make a magic show show bigger and more valuable.

Magic Rose - the magician is holding a full sized white rose and sprinkles it with glitter dust. Then he approaches one of the female specatators and gives it to her. Suddenly, the white rose turns to red.

Vanishing milk pitcher - it looks like an ordinary pitcher. The magician present the pitcher to the audience to show that it does not have any holes. He places liquid (usually milk because it is more visible than water) on the pitcher and covers it with silk cloth. A few magics later and the liquid disappears from the pitcher. The magician even turns it upside down to prove that there is no liquid on the pitcher.

Giant Deck of Cards- there's a deck of cards available which falls perfectly in between the standard poker-size cards and the typical jumbo decks. The Anglo Giant cards measure 3.5" by 5" and their large indices make it easy for audiences to see the cards even from a distance.

Magnetic finger Tips - is used to perform routines with Coins, Silverware, Cling Rings other metallic objects. It can also be used in a trick to move objects.

Wand - it is a slim stick used by magicians to execute some magic tricks.

Collapsible top hat - a black satin lined hat that folds flat when tapped by a wand and springs back to normal when touched again.

Chinese coins - can be used for enthralling type tricks and other magic coin techniques.

Coin bender - a specially made tool for magicians that bends coins during an act.

Feather Flower - this item can be compressed into a thin bundle than can fit on either your coat sleeve or into your hat. Then, they pop open when reached.

Threads - This is almost invisible to the naked eye. It allows you to perform tricks that make objects float.

Fire Wallet - this wallet fires up when opened.

To Be Or Not To Be A Professional Or An Amateur Magician
An amateur magician is anyone who has a minimum amount of talent, skill and knowledge when it comes to performing magic tricks. He or she may be anyone who knows one magic trick or at least three magic tricks.

But basically, a more technical definition of an amateur magician is anyone who does not in any way practice magic as their trade, even if he or she knows four, five, six or more than a number of magic tricks. This is regardless of how good, better or excellent he or she may be in performing flourishes, sleight of hand or optical illusions.

However, there are those amateur magicians who try their very best to expand their current knowledge as well as repertoire and still practice magic as their primary source of income. People who do this are usually called hedge magicians. This is in order to differentiate them from authentic professional magicians who make practicing and performing magic as a trade and make an actual living doing so.

Meanwhile a professional magician is anyone who has a little bit more knowledge and talent compared to an amateur magician. These professional magicians know sufficient magic that makes it enough for them to use it as their primary source of trade and income, as well as not using magic to assist them in a trade other than magic.

So technically, even if a barber performs his job using magic and no matter how many tricks he or she knows and is capable of, that barber is still not considered as a professional magician because his primary trade is cutting hairs and not necessarily being a magician.
Another way to differentiate a professional magician from an amateur is by the way he or she does flourishes.

According to the Online Encylopedia of Magic, a flourish is any sleight that is performed for the purpose of entertaining an audience and does not in any way contain any moves that are hidden. Most sleights that are performed are done so in order to deceive a captive audience and to do something that can not be detected. Meanwhile, a flourish is any trick that is done to draw the audience?s attention away from where an actual sleight is simultaneously being performed.

There are some magicians who consider the performance of a flourish as simply a finger exercise and not really actual pieces of performance. But those magicians who do put in and include flourishes in their act are considered by some of their fellow magicians as a seriously skilled performer.

If a performance consists of a card trick wherein the cards are spread out on the table and when a performer does a pressure card fan, the image that that performer projects is one of professionalism and experience. But a performer of magic who simply holds the cards and then spreads them slightly, may then be considered more as an amateur. Although this may or may not be true or this may not be considered as a hard fact, this is the perception and the impression that a performing magician usually gives to an audience.

Flourishes are done not just as a form of show-off to the audience, a flourish is also done for the purpose of presenting just how a performer is truly dedicated to the magic act. It also shows the degree of professionalism one has for the performance.

When a flourish is done, it makes it easier to know the difference between a magic trick performed by an expert magician and your friendly neighborhood Jim who is doing a card trick.

A skilled performer comes off as a natural and will ultimately receive more credit for his or her performance as well as recognition, not to mention that good old respect for the skills he or she has.

When a spectator is looking at a magic trick where the occasional flourish is done, that performer is also seen as more than a magician but a person who is passionate at what he or she is doing. It is therefore so much easier to hire a magician who has more skills and experience than one who needs to practice his or her craft more.

RMMM - Bank note magic
Rich Magicians Money Magic. This is a great bar and close up magic trick. Watch how people will be amazed when you borrow a bank note from them and then turn it into two. The trick uses a borrowed note and needs only a few seconds of set up. There is not a real gimmick used for this trick but you will need a very cheap item from a magic store which will cost you a few dollars to purchase. This effect is from the Doorway Magic team who are resident magicians at Pubtricks.com so if you like their work then buy a few video tutorials at the same time and take advantage of the free tricks offer.
Dice Trick - Number Magic!
This is a totally impromptu trick and needs no gimmicks. You take a dice, show 2 sides and then remove one of the dots. Then just as quickly you throw the dot back on. Before any one says the singular of dice is die I did know but wanted people to know that this is a dice trick and it helps for Google placement! Anyway, back to the trick. Watch Lee show this to a room of people and listen to the reaction when the dot comes off and then comes back. The tutorial covers the method needed for both left and right handed people and is to Lees usual high standard, hence the Gold Standard. Enjoy!
The Magic Pencil
Kems has another unique effect for you to learn. A brand new pencil sharpens itself instantly and just so you do not hurt yourself you can turn it back to a new un-sharpened pencil. This trick needs a gimmick and the tutorial video tells you how to perform the trick and how to make the gimmick at home. Kems tricks are always great so why not get 3 right now and get the 4th for free! This trick has a difficulty rating of 3.
Magic at movie theaters or restaurants
Once I worked at a restaurant called Molly Murphy’s, which featured a whole bunch of crazy, costumed waiters. For instance, there was Rasputin who used to jump on the tables, knocking some of the food over and almost giving the guests a heart attack. Another waiter specialized in karate moves, weaving cute, little katas and thunderous kicks and punches as he marched to his hungry customers, while carrying large platters of roast beef, onions, tomatoes and potatoes. Everyone had fun here, once they got in. But when it was winter, a lot of people stood out in the cold.
I played the part of a character called Ganymede Jones, a science fiction character I had independently developed in a science fiction radio show. My job was to entertain those folks who were outside in the cold and not in a very good mood. I’m afraid I just tried to make up jokes, but I was generally freezing and like my customers, not in a good mood. It would have been better if I could have moved around more - maybe picking out flowers out of little girl’s ears or doing coin tricks for my hungry customers as they stood out there in the cold. Well, maybe not coin tricks - because it was cold. Ah, maybe some large dice… and some wool handkerchiefs (are there such things?)
Another very crowded place with often-restless people are film festivals. This might be a great place to convince the film festival planners to keep their clients happy, especially when they are standing outside in the extreme heat or cold, waiting for a famous director to talk about his new film on the political dialogue of New York subway passengers, or seeing the first documentary on the sex life of the electric eel. But, instead of watching those delightful flicks, they are waiting, waiting… Give you any ideas?
Better, perhaps, would be inside the lobbies of restaurants or movie theaters, where you are warmer - and you can move close to the crowd and entertain them with coin or card tricks. And sometimes there are long waits here. Know a restaurant like that which is packed around 5:00 o’clock? People are there, bored, waiting for the hostess - maybe a California Pizza Kitchen or an Olive Garden? It can’t hurt to ask the manager if you could make that horrible waiting time a little bit more entertaining. It would bring them back and if they have kids…need I say more?
